Enjoy your independence today, it was won at great costs and should be cherished.

Poppie was getting us coffee this morning, so we could start our day and finish up the last minute details, when the phone rang. Bug was looking for printer paper and printer ink, odd time to call but he knows we are always up this time of day, usually for quite some time.  He asked to bring a friend and his kids, of course we said yes.  This will be the first time Bug and his family have joined our 4th event for several years due to happenstance and other commitments, it will be nice to have them.

I am reminded this morning of the 13 tiny colonies that acting as independent units banded together to take on the most powerful country in the world.  It took years to accomplish and a great many gave their lives so that we could  have the democracy we enjoy today. No, it is not perfect and in many ways in not what the founding fathers envisioned but it is still the greats democracy in the world. Be proud that you live here and join in on celebrating it, if only for today tomorrow you can complain and whine about it. I find the developing events in the middle east so like what the forefathers would have done to win us our freedom.  I know they didn't have Internet and social media so the events developed at a slower pace, but if you consider that two hundred plus years ago they were using their cutting edge technology when it is very similar.  They are fight for their freedom and the right to govern their selves and have a voice in doing so.  Those 13 colonies won and in doing so became one nation not the 13 countries that they had intended to be.  I hope the countries and people losing their lives, for what they believe in, have a comparable out come.  It is time that human rights and freedom came to those people in a similar way to what we have enjoyed in our country for over 200 years.

We will enjoy our day, our friends and our family and most of all remember what this day means and meant to so many that came before us..... tomorrow.
